When to use this calculator
Use this calculator when you want the three numbers derived from your name: expression (all letters), soul urge (vowels) and personality (consonants). It works with any Latin-alphabet name, such as your birth name or a name you currently use.
How it is calculated
- Convert each letter to a value from 1 to 9 using the sequence A=1 to I=9, J=1 to R=9, S=1 to Z=8.
- Add all letters for the expression number.
- Add only A, E, I, O and U for the soul urge number (Y is treated as a consonant here).
- Add the remaining consonants for the personality number, then reduce each total.
Worked example
Input: Maria Lopez
Working: All letters total 53, then 5 + 3 = 8. Vowels total 22, a master number, so it is kept. Consonants total 31, then 3 + 1 = 4.
Result: Expression 8, soul urge 22, personality 4
Common mistakes
- Skipping a middle name when the tradition you follow uses the full birth name.
- Reading Y as a vowel when your source treats it as a consonant (this tool uses the consonant rule).
- Using a nickname and comparing it with results calculated from a legal name.
Results are symbolic and meant for reflection, not prediction. Calculation rules and sources are on the methodology page.
