Use the full name on your birth certificate, including middle names. A nickname or married name describes how you present yourself now, and some people calculate both to compare.

How to calculate your Expression Number

  1. Write your full birth name.
  2. Convert every letter to a number: A, J, S = 1; B, K, T = 2; C, L, U = 3; D, M, V = 4; E, N, W = 5; F, O, X = 6; G, P, Y = 7; H, Q, Z = 8; I, R = 9.
  3. Add all the numbers together.
  4. Reduce the total to one digit, keeping 11, 22 or 33.

Worked example: Name: Maria Lopez

  • MARIA: 4 + 1 + 9 + 9 + 1 = 24
  • LOPEZ: 3 + 6 + 7 + 5 + 8 = 29
  • Total: 24 + 29 = 53 → 5 + 3 = 8

Is the Expression number the same as the Destiny number?

Yes. Different authors use different names for the same calculation from the full birth name.

Should I reduce each name separately first?

Some practitioners reduce each name before adding. It usually gives the same answer but can occasionally hide a master number. AngelSign adds every letter first and then reduces.

Is Y a vowel or a consonant?

Authors disagree. AngelSign treats only A, E, I, O and U as vowels, so Y always counts as a consonant. This does not affect the Expression number, which uses every letter.
